Bilateral focal dystonia- upper cervical chiropractic care cured his shaking

Specific from Genesis Chiropractic, NWA.
This client is a 59 year old male who had been suffering with shaking tremors in his hands and arms for almost 15 years. He couldn’t hold a cup of coffee without spilling it. He wasn’t steady enough to take pictures. He couldn’t operate heavy machinery safely. He didn’t even sleep well because of the spastic muscle contractions. He’d lost all hope of living a normal life…(read details below video)
After many years of trying every treatment under the sun with NO results, he received a specific upper cervical adjustment of Atlas (1st cervical vertebra) and his body started healing immediately.
Now he is doing well, functioning normally, not shaking anymore.

This man’s quality of life was restored back to normal after spending over a decade of the last 15 years with uncontrollable shaking.

Prior to coming into Genesis Chiropractic, his shoulders, arms, and hands would jerk or twitch about once or twice every second. Sometimes it was slower, and sometimes less intense, and sometimes he’d have periods of relief, but it was fairly constant day & night…for years.
When he finally found out about upper cervical chiropractic care, he had been suffering with nearly “non-stop shakin’ days” for almost 7 years.
The fancy medical term for this symptom (according to the Mayo Clinic website) is a very rare type of involuntary movement disorder called “bilateral focal dystonia” affecting both Right and Left sides. He showed me that it started in the pectoralis major muscles.
His experience is unique for several reasons:
1. The original injury & insult to his nervous system came after taking Prednisone to reduce swelling and pain from a work-related injury. The doctor put him on this popular anti-inflammatory steroid and it immediately made him start shaking.
2. This doctor said that a steroid taken for inflammation in his back wouldn’t cause the tremor side-effect (arms shaking & jerking). He told me that doctor said, “Prednisone won’t cause tremors, but go ahead and quit taking it if you want.”
3. It got worse, so he went to the emergency room and they told him it was an allergic reaction to the Prednisone. He quit taking it. The shaking changed to “off and on” for about 3 months. It started and stopped for a few days at a time, but in January 1997 the shaking became continual…
4. This constant motion and inability to control the twitching muscles became very frustrating over time, especially since they never found the cause of his dystonia.
–He couldn’t hold a cup of coffee without spilling it.
—He couldn’t hold a camera steady enough to take video or pictures.
—-He couldn’t operate heavy machinery with ease or safety (a real problem on his job).
—–He couldn’t even sleep well because many nights the muscle contractions continued while he slept.
5. After no success with his general practitioner or any local doctors, he began looking for a 2nd opinion and was referred to a series of renowned neurologists, surgeons, specialists, etc. This search lead him to several highly respected, world renowned hospitals, clinics, and surgical treatment centers:
*Baylor Medical Clinic in Houston, TX
*Bonati Spine Institute in Hudson, FL
*Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN
*University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, KS
*Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO
*Our office is not associated with any of these medical institutions. Links are provided for your convenience.
The many 2nd opinions he received from these hospitals/clinics were very sad and disappointing, not because of a poor standard of medical care, but because they gave him:
1) No solutions (or inappropriate therapies). After more than a dozen years and countless examinations and endless failed treatments, they still had no answers for him…and he nearly gave up hope.
2) Incomplete analysis. None of the physicians at any of these wonderful facilities knew how to assess his spine and nerve system for proper alignment and function. They never checked the checked the function of his nervous system.
3) Little sympathy. During our consultation on August 13, 2010 he told me, “Doctors don’t want to hear the problem!”
For example:
–One doctor told him it was a rapid onset of Parkinson’s disease and put him on medication for Parkinsonian syndrome…which made the shaking worse!
—> Strike one!
–One doctor accused him of “faking” the tremor, saying, “I’m sure it will clear up after the settlement with your worker’s comp!!
—>> Strike two!
–Other doctors said they were very puzzled and concerned. A few of them gave him a fancy diagnosis (medical jargon describing the symptoms), but they admitted it was an extremely rare condition and they didn’t know what to do. A few honestly said they had “no idea what was wrong,” but they decided he was not a surgical candidate because there was nothing wrong with his spine or nervous system (as far as they knew).
—>>> Strike three, four, five, six!!!
6. After all that time and money, he was right back where he started…involuntary continual tremor!
–Not only did the medical profession fail to diagnose his problem, they essentially ignored his need.
—None of their drugs helped him.
—-None of the myriad tests and endless exams gave him any answers.
—–He was left without hope
…So he went looking for an alternative approach. He was desperate for a real second opinion, so he began visiting Chiropractors, Naturopaths, Massage therapists, P.T.s, Homeopaths, and other “healers” to try chiropractic, physical therapy, accupuncture, nutrition, herbs, mineral chelation, homeopathic remedies, cleanses, etc.
He went so far as getting all of his teeth pulled out a number of years ago. He was told that the fillings were possibly leeching toxins or heavy metals into his system. Silver amalgam dental fillings contain mercury. When this poisonous material is put into a tooth cavity the mercury can wear away or rub off or loosen or vaporize and “leak” into your stomach and potentially poison your blood stream.
Toxicity from heavy metals in the nervous system is very damaging to your nerve cells…mercury is listed as a neurotoxin! (See “mercury-free dentistry” for more details.)
So it made sense to him that his fillings could be causing a hyperactivity to his nerves and muscles, and so he had all of his teeth removed with both Good news and Bad news:
the shaking stopped for a few months…but then it came back with a vengeance and has been plaguing him non-stop since then…
…non-stop, that is, until he came to see me.
He was referred into our office by Dr. Marvin Shipman, N.D.. Dr. Shipman is a Naturopath (aka Naturopathic Doctor) and owner of Ozark Herb & Spice in Bentonville, AR.
7. FINALLY, he found a real second opinion. I gave him a new way to understand the truth about how the body works.
I’m not a superhero.
I don’t have special powers.
I’m not providing a magical cure.
I don’t diagnose, treat, or cure any condition (physical, mental, or spiritual), but I do something different.
I offer a separate and distinct 2nd opinion which is truly unique in all of health care.
Our office provides Vitalistic Upper Cervical Specific Chiropractic Care. I am the only NWA Chiropractor doing this type of work.
The solitary aim of Genesis Chiropractic is improved function. We accomplish this by simply restoring a clear strong neurological connection between your brain and body.
Our protocol:
I did a nerve function scan (Tytron digital infrared paraspinal thermography), spinal assessment, posture and leg-length balance check, plus several other functional evaluations of his nerve system, and then I took a precision series of 3-D Blair upper cervical specific chiropractic spinographs (special stereo x-rays of the upper neck).
Whenever the joints between the head and neck are misaligned, there is a torqued dysfunction (altered range of motion) between the skull the rest of the spinal column. This persistent imbalance in the Atlas & Axis (1st & 2nd Cervical vertebrae) changes the bio-mechanical function of the spine and transfers pressure / distortion / compression / tension directly into the central nervous system at the level of the brain stem and upper section of the spinal cord…this process is called Subluxation.
This client clearly had a “disconnect” between brain and pectoral muscles!
Reduced communication between brain & body (from subluxation) results in altered function of the nerve system and diminished expression of life.
After finding the cause of his problem, I delivered a specific scientific chiropractic adjustment to his upper neck, unlocking the misaligned bones between the head and neck, allowing his body to correct the cause, begin healing, and restore normal function.
He has been under care since August 2010 and is doing well to this day.
No more shaking!!
He noticed some improved digestion & bowel function.
He has also reported more energy and a little better mental focus.
Clear connection = Better function
The dystonia tremors have come back only once since this video was made. It was about 3 or 4 months after starting care in our office. He’d had several days of long hard hours in a very stressful work environment. He was extremely fatigued for a couple days.
This stress sent him into subluxation again and he started shaking. He quickly returned to the office. I found a subluxation pattern on his nerve function scan, imbalance in the posture, and misaligned spine…so a second adjustment was given and it cleared him out again. He has been problem free (no more shaking) ever since the end of November 2010!
The picture below shows some of the nerves after they leave cervical spine and travel into the complicated brachial plexus. The pectoralis major muscles are supplied by C5, C6, C7, C8, and T1 nerve roots. As the plexus forms from nerve roots, trunks, divisions, and cords, the lateral pectoral nerve and medial pectoral nerve come from the lateral and medial cords respectively.
Brachial plexus of nerves from cervical spine

I can’t explain his amazing results any more simply than this:
He was subluxated!
(His C-1 Atlas vertebra was misaligned with the skull causing great tension and pressure on his brain stem.)
This subluxation altered the communication & connection between the brain and his pectoral muscles causing them to fire (flex) uncontrollably.
Then he was adjusted (using specific upper cervical protocol) and connected so his body could correct the problem naturally. He is healing and functioning better, growing stronger and healthier!
