Voices that matter

Kim
A concussion wasn’t my wish for my 42nd birthday but that’s what I got.  Head trauma from a freak accident at home—my head was in motion as I reached back to catch a heavy closing door on a spring hinge.  My hand didn’t catch that door but my head did.
It was January 2nd and the day had started out perfectly   My family was enjoying their last day of Christmas break and sleeping in.  I left a quiet house and joined my friend for a fun workout.  We laughed about holiday fun, holiday drama, and fun holiday splurges.  My thoughts were on the new year ahead.  I stopped for my favorite almond milk latte on the way home and was greeted with lots of birthday hugs from my kids when I arrived.  My husband surprised me by taking the Christmas tree and was busy putting everything away.  This was one of my least favorite tasks.

We had a great day at home. Just before leaving to go out for my birthday dinner the accident occurred.  Throughout dinner I only had a slight headache.  The next day symptoms of a serious concussion slowly progressed.  A medical diagnosis of a concussion was given to me. I was so ill with severe headaches, nausea, dizziness, sensitivity to noise and light.  My balance was off and my eyes were not tracking.  I couldn’t take care of my family and had to retreat to the quiet guest room in our basement. Months went by and I was still struggling. I was following the doctor’s advice to recover. Only I wasn’t recovering. After my headaches eased a little, I realized my neck was hurting. I was sent to PT to help resolve this. Each session seemed to make matters worse. I was so tired, I was in so much pain, I was tearful and couldn’t be the mom I once was. Lights, noises, too many people talking, I couldn't’ deal with any of it. I was overwhelmed and I was so dizzy. I was being sent to lot of different doctors and one could really  help me.
Frustrated, I randomly typed concussion into a Facebook search. This lead me to concussion support groups and I was reading one story that sounded so much lie mine. I had gone five months in to this painful journey and she had endured three years! She mentioned heavy beltway traffic getting to the doctor that was helping her so much. I immediately traced back and saw where she had listed the name and address of the doctor wondering what city she as referring to with heavy beltway traffic. I was so excited to find out that in fact it was the same beltway I was hoping for.
After meeting with Dr. Leslie and her staff, they all made me feel so welcomed, understood, and best of all she had an answer to why I was feeling the way I was. It has been just a little over two months since I began treatment at The Atlas & Spine Center of Greater Washington and I am so happy to say that I am well on my way back to health! Under her treatment and care, my headaches and dizziness are gone, I’m becoming stronger each day, and I am able to handle my life and family more and more. I am seeing the person that I was before the accident occurred emerge once again and I’m able to find joy.

I get quite emotional to the of the direction my life was in before I found out about Dr. Leslie. I know that I am going to recover from this. All those gial I though about for the New Year will happen—even if they got a late start! I’ve never found a Dr’s office that I look forward to my appointments or one that had helped me this much! I am so very grateful I found her.

"I have given a lot of thought to how I should begin this essay. The idea of describing in detail the last 13 years of medical specialties, physical therapists, misdiagnosis, pills, chiropractors, acupuncture treatments, facet and Botox injections, muliple imaging studies and the intense pain that could be described at best, as miserable, was daunting; so I decided to start in the present.

Today, June 1st 2015, I feel like a million bucks! My journey back to health and well-being began in October 2014. Currently, I am able to enjoy my family and even my job like a normal, very nearly pain-free human. I can stand, sit and go shopping without popping pills or taping portable ice or heat packs to my body for 15 minutes of relief then back to miserable. I can turn my head to change lanes while driving, not my entire body, I don’t have to schedule PT appointments twice a week after work and around my family life. I am now able to concentrate at work, and I am not totally exhausted by 10am. There is nothing like sitting in atwo-hour meeting squirming because you just can’t stand the pain one more second or lying on the floor of your office just for a few moments of relief. At the end of October, I took my first almost pain free vacation in years! A trip to St. Thomas with girlfriends and my new BFF, my cervical collar.

How did I find Dr. Leslie? After making an appointment to begin what I thought was going to be another round of PT, my very good Physical Therapist said to me, after all these years, I don’t know what else to do with you! I want you to try this Chiropractor in Greenbelt. My response was, Greenbelt? Really? A little geographically undesirable, as I live in Bethesda. Upon arriving I was greeted by Nicole and Lesly, the two wonderful medical office assistants. Not only are they kind and compassionate, but also run the place like a top. My consultation with Dr. leslie pretty much began at the beginning; birth to present. Not one fall, sports injury, or surgery was missed. Nutrition and sleep patterns were discussed, as well as, the dreaded stress. Next came the spinal imaging. Being a Medical Imager by trade, i could only sympathize with the tech as she struggle to align the necessary anatomical landmarks on my face and skull until just right. The only thing worse was actually sitting in the chair while in the “head holder”. I knew I was off but it became even more obvious once she was able to position my head in a true anatomical position. My whole body felt like i was a coil wound too tight and twisted.

I arrived for my ‘adjustment’ appointment 1 week later, I must admit, somewhat skeptical but full of anticipation. Not sure what I expected, but what happened next was truly a miracle for me. This painless, quick procedure was all it took to begin to transform my misaligned, unhappy body into a happier place. After I was “adjusted” I felt a strange type of circulation, which Dr. Leslie described to me as my neurology adjusting. She also warned me to be careful walking that my gait would feel different. Boy, did it. With my legs the same length and my pelvins in place, walking felt so smooth and effortless. And the familiar enemy I had been saddled with for so long was retreating. My neck and upper back felt completely different, my face felt related and it was even easier to breath. She mentioned that I might need a little extra rest, and I might even sleep better that evening. When I woke up 45 minutes late the following morning, I just smiled. I knew at that moment that my search for pain relief had ended and my journey to proper body alignment had begun.

Since October I have been on a steady course of getting better. I have gradually increaed my exercise level to build up my muscles. My visits with Dr. Leslie have tapered from three times a week to once every two weeks. I have had two minor set backs during my course of treatment. The great thing about the setbacks were that once I was out of alignment I certainly knew it! How uncomfortable! What a difference having all of your verts in a row makes!

I don’t know how to thank Dr. Leslie and her team. Not to sound dramatic but, I now have my life back. No more missing out because of pain and exhaustion. I am back to enjoying life again. My sister pleasantly refers to Dr. leslie as Glinda, the Good Witch."

Dr. Windman - The Atlas

Atlas Orthogonal Care

How may it help?

Headaches, migraines, neck pain, peripheral neuropathies, shoulder pain and TMJ dysfunction are quite common these days. The stressful lives we lead, incorrect posture, sports injuries- including concussions, and car accidents may be some of the major causes behind these symptoms. Painkillers, antibiotics and surgeries are usually prescribed to the patients.

However, most patients and their physicians are unaware of a conservative, drugless, non-invasive treatment that may provide effective outcomes for these symptoms.

Causes

Cervico Cranial (Atlas) Junction can often be a major underlying cause behind many health issues, such as headache, chronic pain, neck pain, back pain, and chronic fatigue syndrome among others. The spinal cord is the extension of the brain and plays a vital role in proper fuction of the human body. If the very top of the spine (Atlas or C1) that directly connects with the brain is misaligned, the entire spine loses its proper alignment, causing compensation  and the head and body will no longer remain in balance. This may lead to the symptoms listed above. The nervous system is not able to communicate properly with the body and the condition worsens over time. A more extensive list of causes can be seen below:

  • Car or motorcycle accidents
  • Slips and falls
  • Blows to the head
  • Sports related injuries, including concussions
  • Bad sleeping habits
  • Poor posture/Ergonomic positions using computers
  • Incorrect lifting
  • Dental or jaw problems - including the use of improper appliances
  • Seizures

What Symptoms can be helped
Since the Atlas Orthogonal procedure rebalances the spine and normalizes neurological, vascular, and cerebrospinal flow, many symptoms may resolve.

Our patients report improvements of:
  • Headaches and migranes
  • Tinnitus
  • Dizziness
  • Balance issues
  • Peripheral neuropathy
  • Nerve issues (pain, numbness or tingling in arms and/or legs)
  • Neck pain
  • Back pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Restless Leg Syndrome
  • Plantar Fascitis
  • Brain fog
  • Depression and/or anxiety
  • Pediatric fever syndrome

The Treatment

Dr. Leslie Windman is a board certified, internationally renowned expert in the field of Atlas Orthogonal Upper Cervical care.  She utilizes the Atlas Orthogonal protocol in  conjuction with other non-invasive techniques, including cranial and fascial manipulation, and Biogeometric Integration(BGI) techniques to assist in optimize recovery.

The process begins with an extensive evaluation of the patient, including questions that can identify all symptoms and injuries clearly. X-rays are taken to determine the degree of misalignment and analysis of imbalances. A customized treatment plan is designed for each individual patient based on their specific symptomatic picture.   Dr. Windman has been utilizing the Atlas Orthogonal Percussive Instrument, which is FDA cleared, for over 20 years with thousands of patients being cared for.

Ann Boroch 100 per cent correct

50 million people in the U.S. have an autoimmune-related disease and the numbers are rapidly increasing, both in the U.S. and around the world. Find out why and learn how diet, detox, and a nutritional makeover can help you or a loved one turn these conditions around. More>>. Discover the real causes of autoimmune conditions and where to start on your path to recovery.

Autoimmune Disease Can Be Healed

Autoimmune disease is one of the leading top 10 causes of death. There are 80 to 100 autoimmune diseases. The National Institutes of Health says up to 23.5 million Americans suffer from autoimmune disease. The American Autoimmune Related Disease Association says 50 million. The exact numbers are not the issue; it is the fact that the numbers are rapidly increasing, not just in the United States but around the world.
Autoimmune disease is a condition where the immune system mistakenly destroys and attacks health body tissue. Common autoimmune diseases are Hashimoto’s disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), celiac disease, lupus, scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis, HIV/AIDS, diabetes type 1, and psoriasis.
Western medicine typically uses steroids and immunosuppressant treatments, which can lead to devastating long-term side effects. There is no “quick fix” pill or drug to beat autoimmune disease. We have become a culture conditioned to expecting a “silver bullet” to cure all our ailments. There is no silver bullet, but there are solutions.

What Are the Root Causes of Autoimmune Conditions?

Inflammation is the main cause of autoimmune disease and is attributable to four factors. The first factor is infection, which is brought on by candida, fungus, parasites, bacteria, and/or viruses. Second are environmental toxins, such as petrochemicals, pesticides, herbicides, and heavy metals. Third is nutritional deficiency and toxicity in the body. Fourth is unmanaged stress. How much each one contributes to inflammation in a person’s body will vary for each person, but the longer the factors go unaddressed the more inflammation builds and the more symptomatic you will become. Eventually, conditions such as autoimmune illnesses, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases materialize.
Factors-that-create-infammation
Faced with this reality, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and powerless. But the truth is that you are in the driver’s seat and in control of your health. We must not forget that the body has an innate intelligence—an ability to repair itself and maintain balance. Using and promoting the body’s intelligence is the key to getting better.

Where Do I Start?

First, make the choice to be healthy. Second, educate yourself on your condition, nutrition, and how to create a healthy lifestyle program. Last, take action and be diligent in upholding your better choices.
Ann’s book Healing Multiple Sclerosis  will educate and empower you on how to begin your healing journey. It is not just for those with MS but is essential for anyone with an autoimmune condition.
Believing you can heal is the first step

Fungus Cure Deluxe

So I know this will risk sounding frivolous to those of us here that have quality of life and life threatening health issues we manage. For me, since getting kicked out of the cancer club, its these little victories that make me feel like I'm on the right road to a better quality of life. So I'm gonna risk sharing this little thing as part of my need to share with someone like minded, what to me seems a wonder. I guess thats gonna have to be the reader.

So for the last week I've been using a very high quality cannabis oil extract that I had squirreled away before coming to Michigan to help get me improve the effectiveness of the medicine I've been able to find here. I know I should vaporize - but I have been using a rice paper and simply spreading a little on the rolling paper and smoking it.

So here's the bit - I have had a nasty looking nail fungus on my right thumb and left foot for more years than I can recall. Were talking ugly too. The kind that freaks people out enough that they try not to notice and would never dare speak of it. The kind you see on someone forty years older than me where the nails are yellow and all deformed.
The one nail of my right thumb has been like that for years. If I lose the nail, it grows back the same. I tried every product on the market. Nothing made any difference. The Dermatologist and my GP's called it systemic and said clayation therapy or nasty pharmaceuticals that would stress and risk my liver were the only options. That it was better to do nothing. Wear a glove.

So I'm a klutz, and I'm getting this super high grade oil on my fingers as I'm smoking my evening meds, and this happens a couple of days in a row, and I decide to rub it into my messed up skin and nails. Then in an epiphany, I took a small dab of oil on the end of a nut pic and stuck it under the nail - added a dab to the cuticle. The next day I did the same thing. Then again that same night, another dab under the nail and on the surface - just an ever so tiny amount.

The next morning about 60% of the rotting mess of a nail painlessly fell off. What nail growth that was under it looks fairly normal. I have continued to apply the oil each evening for the last five nights and the discoloration on the rest of the nail is rapidly vanishing. The deformation, the twisting of the nail seems to be softening. The new nail growth at the cuticle is growing very fast and the structure of the new growth looks almost fully normal, functional.

The sad thing is. I'm almost out of this product. I only had 1 gram of it and I had picked that up in September. Its was called High Delta 8 THC Gold. Steep Hill Labs if memory serves.
If anyone knows how I could get some of this... in LA the dispensary I favored reserved it for their cancer patients. I need more to try this on my toe to confirm if this oil really works as fantastically well as it seems to be working.

    New Cardiovascular assesment -

And now this turns up in the press, which might be a new one for Granny's list. (I'm starting to think someone in a position of influence has been working to reconditioning the opinions of the other 50%.)

Jerusalem, Israel: The active constituents in marijuana influence the cardiovascular system and hold promise in the management of certain cardiovascular diseases, including arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat) and ischemia, according to a scientific review appearing in the journal Cardiovascular Therapeutics.

Investigators at the Hadassah Hebrew University Medical Center in Israel and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston assessed preclinical data on cannabinoids and their role in various cardiovascular pathologies.

They reported: "The endocannabinoid system has a physiological role in the cardiovascular systems. This system is involved in modulating cardiac inflammatory processes, maintaining hemodynamic homeostasis and rhythm control. It is not surprising, therefore, that cannabinoids offers intervention opportunities to alter the course of cardiovascular diseases. Such is the case in ischemic reperfusion injuries, where there is evidence that activating the cannabinoid system may prevent ischemic injuries and arrhythmia. Such is the case in the rhythm control mechanisms, where a few studies indicate potential antiarrhythmic properties for cannabinoids, and such is the case in heart failure."

Authors concluded, "The evidence of a potential role for cannabinoid in various cardiovascular pathologies, together with the safety data gleaned from various human intervention studies, indicate that now is the time to show efficacy across species and continue toward human trials."

For more information, please contact Paul Armentano, NORML Deputy Director, at: paul@norml.org. Full text of the study, "The potential for clinical use of cannabinoids in treatment of cardiovascular diseases," appears in the journal Cardiovascular Therapeutics.

I think it could be possible for it to help with fungi as there are lots of oriental medication tinctures out for helping fungi. They are typically a mixture of herbs, and they seem to work fairly well for most patients. Needs to be researched more, but could offer some benefits.

  4. Freakears

Yes, that is true, we need more research. And unfettered access to these type of products. I have been given tictures in Asia, but nothing like this.
I seem to remember once hearing a doctor claim THC had some aggressive anti-fungal properties with a few hard to kill types of fungi, but I have been focused on other stuff than my nails these past few years.
The speed that this stuff is healing this is almost unbelievable to me. The oil is definitely crushing the thick ugly white stuff thats been entrenched under the nail.

I wish I had a doctor monitoring this, what do I know. I'm just a layman. The nail still has a long way to go to look normal but the general condition of all the skin on the hand is improving. Asuming the fungus clears up completely at that location, I'm guessing that after I stop using the oil topically, it'll return.

I am very heartened to hear what you have seen with your first applications of the tincture to your condition. I have read with much interest the ability for a MJ tincture to do such things as something similar is on my list of things to do in the near future for my dad. He has a Staff infection on his leg. The doctors don't have a way to cure it as they claim it is multi-drug resistant. It just lives there on his skin, waiting for him to irritate it enough that it flares up into a case of cellulitis. What I have promised him is that as soon as I am able, I will be making a tincture (many recipes on this site) and we will see what a topical application will do for him. From what you have said above, this might result in a dramatic and sudden change in his condition! Now the question for both of us will be, can it cure it completely and kill the infection that sits there or will it need to be applied forever to get complete relief.

We do have a doctor that he has been seeing and if this works we WILL be taking it to that doctor so that he can document it. Somehow, the laws need to be changed so that in the non-relief states we can also legally get this "medicine" into the hands of the people who need it. To not do so is the real crime.

It was reported years ago that there has been some sucess with cannabis oils and treating methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, to prevent the microbes from colonizing on the skin.

    Fungus Report- 2/6/11

While the condition of the skin and nail on the afflected thumb continue to improve, progress has slowed to a more customary pace. The crusty white layers that live under the nail are still sheding weight, but the growth is shrinking with less speed. The base of the nail is reforming its new growth into the shape it had prior to the onset of infection (over a decade ago). Color is improved. The nail and thumb tip is actually a little painful today, not sure why. It must be something to do with the nail regrowing on the surface of the thumb... as opposed to always lifting and growing away from the surface of the thumb..
(I won't go so far as to entertain the possibility that cannabis meds are affecting the damaged nerves in my hand and ergo, the cause of todays discomfort. I'll save that speculation for the pharma pros & R&D teams who will be taking over Cannabis research from us patients once the Toady that is currently in charge of rescheduling controled substances, is turned out to pasture.)
    Peace out,

Had I known, I would have snapped a few pictures before the worst of it fell off. Now it just looks ugly - before it looked scary.

Here's the bit. I used the last of the oil last night and I have no way to replace it without going to Calif...(With all the noise the new AG is making I might not have a choice but to go back... in a hurry).

There hasn't been much of a change in the nail since I ran out of the oil. All I can do is wait and see if it will continue to grow out clean or see if a tincture might have the same effect. I had some kind of bubble concentrate that I tried on it but it just clogged up everything that seemed to be working.

I have to go to Ann Arbor tomorrow to see the new cancer butcher, after I'll be able to see what I can learn at the dispensary but I'm not very hopeful. I have no idea how that oil was refined but the stuff was unlike anything I had seen before. No aspergillus or solivents. Zero leaf matter. It absorbed right thru the skin in minutes, very very clean and pure effect on the body too. A cancer patients dream come true.

Well... it was nice while it lasted.

    -Creepy Systemic Fungus Update -

Prognosis Unknown but it aint good either.

Certainly without the ability to run a full course of the THC oil we'll never know- it could just as easly be due to some other reason still completely unknow to me. Whatever it is, its coming back and its pissed off. The nail is starting to hurt across the top of the thumb again, ( I had actually forgotten that it did when it started out) ...and the nail is warping and thickening again.

Paying for my misspent youth I suppose.

Having found something that changes your situation for the better, you must continue! Find someone that can supply it or make that drive to get some more oil. When you do, look for contacts. You have a valid reason to desire this and any compassionate MMP will understand your need. Each time it starts throbbing, think about this... and then weigh your options. What do you value more... relief from this horrible condition, or the time and gas it will take to find relief?

You aren't crazy. I've been experiencing the same thing. I take high content CBD Oil Caps from Pure Hemp Botanicals. I've always had a thick yellow townail on my right big toe. I started noticing new "normal" growth.. And now after about a month or so, its almost completely normal. I couldn't believe it. I've done nothing different except take my cbd oils. That's it. No diet or supplement changes. I've had this ugly yellow thick nail for years now and nothing makes it go away. Until now.. Lol. I'm certainly happy about it though. Wasn't expecting this to happen :)

I was googling about CBD Oil and Candida found this forum, so happy to hear it worked out. I've been to 5 doctors had bloodwork done came back negative for fungus but my Naturopath said it has to to with "Systemic/GUT " with Heavy Metals/Chemicals Sensitivity and Late Stage Chronic Lyme Co-Infections and he suggested UVBI treatments 10 sessions which costs $300/ea + other IV treatments. Mine is super bad, it started on right toe, than my right thumb somehow it spreaded into my bloodstream and both hands have been tensor wrapped for 2 years; of course Doctors in AB denies Lyme and tells patients they have depression.
My question is: Should I get an Oil High Content in CBD or THC? In order for topical use?

cerebral palsy - share this

Cerebral Palsy and the Upper Neck Connection
Cerebral Palsy (CP) is the most prevalent lifelong developmental disability in the United States. Upper cervical doctors have seen tremendous changes in patients with Cerebral Palsy.
Dr. William Amalu of the International Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association has published an amazing case study of a 5-year-old boy confined to a wheelchair with Cerebral Palsy, blindness, chronic ear infections, and severe seizures (30 per day).
After a thorough evaluation the patient was determined to have an upper neck misalignment and Dr. Amalu began a course of care. After the first adjustment, the patient’s mother noted that he had his first good night sleep in weeks. After the second adjustment, the patient’s seizures reduced dramatically to only 10 per day, his vocal drone became a quiet intermittent moan, and he began to clap his hands. His mother noted that he had become more alert, continued to sleep more soundly, began sitting up and looking around, responded to sounds by looking toward the source, and continued with a decrease in seizures to only 5 per day.
During the third and fourth week of care the seizures continued to occur at 5 per day, but all of the severe grand mal seizures had ceased. He was sleeping completely through the night now. For the first time in his life he said “dada”. By the end of the fourth week, his therapists suspected that his vision was suddenly improving. A re-examination of the patient was also performed at this time. There were no signs of any: vocal drone, writhing motions, upper neck muscle spasms or tenderness, restricted neck ranges of motion, or ear fluid. He was now capable of sitting up on his own and his mother reported that for the first time he pulled himself up and stood for over one minute. He began showing fine motor skills this week by grabbing his own pacifier and placing it in his mouth. The patient now showed avoidance to bright light, visual fixation and following, and normal direct and pupil reflexes. His mother noted that this was his first month free from ear infections in 9 months.
By the end of the fifth week of care the patient was seen by his neurologist and ophthalmologist. His ophthalmologist noted a drastic improvement with a recovery of central field vision. The patient’s neurologist reported that his Cerebral Palsy had greatly improved and that he would be requesting further tests to evaluate his seizure condition.
The patient’s follow-up examination with his pediatrician noted that his ears were normal and that tubes would not be necessary. During the time period between the seventh and twelfth week, the patient’s seizures steadily reduced to the point of staring episodes only.
There were no outward signs of seizures by the end of the twelfth week. Over the next 10 months, the patient continued to improve. His neurologist slowly reduced his medication causing his staring episodes to go away. With further testing, the patient was eventually classified as non-epileptic and final withdrawal of all medication was made. He never experienced another episode of the ear infections. His vision improved to the point where he was prescribed glasses. The patient continued to learn simple words with clear pronunciation of “dada, mama, eat, and food”. His fine motor coordination improved such that he was learning to feed himself. The patient’s mother noted that he was also potty training. His gross motor coordination continually progressed to the point that he was able to walk slowly with the assistance of holding one hand.
Absolutely incredible!

More Cerebral Palsy Research

Another study was published where seven patients were tested – two children and five adults. All patients in this study had improvements in many areas including decreased muscle spasms, improved sleep patterns, decreased irritability, decreased pain, and decreased incidence of respiratory and other infections. One child had four unsuccessful surgeries to correct strabismus (crossed eyes) after two adjustments, the crossed eyes were gone. The children were able to hold their heads up for longer periods and are making more attempts at crawling or standing with support. There is also improved clarity and volume of speech in patients with speech and hearing problems. With care, there is overall decrease in muscle activity at all levels and balance improved with eyes closed.
It is clear to see from this research that the connection between neurological conditions like Cerebral Palsy and the upper neck area should be investigated. The brain stem dysfunction that is present with an upper neck misalignment is significant and a variety of different conditions can be caused or exacerbated by this type of a problem.
All Cerebral Palsy sufferers should be evaluated for upper neck misalignments and brain stem dysfunction as soon as possible.
